Durns And Attached Cob Wall Along Road

This is a late 18th and early 19th century house with an attached cob wall along the road. The house is constructed of brick with an old plain tile roof, and the wall is built of cob with tile coping. Originally, the house was likely four bays wide, with a later two-bay addition. The front of the house formerly faced the A337 road, with a cob wall running alongside it and in front of the house, extending from the corner of the house against Rope Hill.

The original front has an old section to the left, with a gabled porch to the right of centre. The porch has a single casement window below and on each side. A cambered-head, two-light casement window is located to the left of the central bay and in the left bay of a pent-roofed addition, along with a service wing that projects forward. A wide band is present on the first floor. On the first floor, there are two-light and single-light casement windows to the centre and right bays. To the right are two or three-light cambered casement windows in each bay, and in the centre of the first floor, the walling is of chequer brickwork. Stacks are located at each end of the original building, and at the right end, as well as a large stack behind the ridge of the second bay from the left. A cob wall, 1.5 metres high, projects forward from the service wing, which extends from the left bay, and continues along in front of the house.
