Description

The Red Lion Inn is a public house that originated in the 17th century and was rebuilt in the 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features some timber framing on the first floor with painted brick infill, along with rebuilding and extensions, and has plain tile roofs. It was originally two storeys high and had three bays, with an off-centre ring to the rear. A wide bay was added to one end, which has a 20th-century low addition attached, and at the other end, there is a 20th-century converted one-and-a-half storey, two-bay service range.

The front of the building has a 19th-century gabled porch with an arched opening at the centre of the two-storey block, flanked by single casement windows. To the right in the two narrow bays, there are two-light casements. Above these, there is a raised first-floor band and exposed framing. The right-hand wide bay features a six-panel door and a wide 20-pane camber head sash window. On the first floor, in the centre and end bays, there are two-light casements. The building has end stacks and gable walls. The right-hand one-and-a-half storey range includes a gabled porch, a large bowed window, and a loft door, along with a 20th-century set-back addition at the end.
