FAWLEY EAGLEHURST SU 40 SE 13/19 3 flights of steps and gateway south east of Luttrell's Tower

GV II

3 flights of steps and gateway at bottom. Circa 1930 possibly by Clough Williams-Ellis. Stone steps and paving linking them, brick piers to wrought iron gates. These steps traverse the low cliff immediately below Luttrell's Tower (qv). Middle, main flight, are perron stairs, flanking a large arch in front of entrance to passageway to cellar of Luttrell's Tower. The parapet wall that runs on inside of stairs rises over archway to accommodate armorial shield in stone. Top flight of 5 steps with lions on side walls. Lowest flight is plain and of concrete. At bottom 4 brick piers with ball-finials. Between central double gates and side pedestrian gates. All quite ornate wrought iron work.
