Description

Ower Farmhouse is an early 19th-century house located on Fawley Calshot Road. It is constructed of yellow brick on a plinth of roughly squared Portland stone, with a slate roof. The original house is two storeys high and has a three-by-two bay layout. A square, flat-roofed porch was added to the centre, featuring a crude dentilled cornice and a low parapet. The porch has a rectangular opening leading to a six-panel door set under an elliptical arch. Large sixteen-pane sashes are present on each side of the porch, each under a rubbed arch. On the first floor, three smaller sixteen-pane sashes are found. The roof is hipped and features large stacks at the top of the side roof faces. The rear elevations have irregular arrangements of openings with cambered heads, and casements with Gothic heads, likely reused from a previous building. The interior retains much of its original joinery, including a staircase with a wreathed handrail at the foot, stick balusters, and moulded brackets to the treads. In the scullery, there is a bread oven and a pump with a lead barrel.
