Description

The building is an arcade that includes a summer dining room and a wall that incorporates an older grotto, located immediately west of Walhampton House. The grotto dates from the 18th century, while the rest of the structure was built in 1914. The arcade features Portland stone columns and an entablature, with the remainder constructed from brick. It connects to the side of the music room and has a 3-meter long section that runs at right angles to the main structure, which is approximately 50 meters long, with the central 20 meters serving as the dining room. The arcade is supported by Doric columns and has an entablature adorned with plain triglyphs and tile-on-edge squares between them, a modillioned cornice, and a low parapet. The dining room features niches on either side, with an overhanging entablature on the columns. At the far end, there is a stage with a rear wall and flanking walls, one of which connects to the arcade. The returns of the flanking walls include a stone archway. Behind the flanking wall of the arcade is the 18th-century grotto, which can be viewed from one of the archways and is decorated with various shell patterns on the walls and the vaulted roof of the room.
