Description
North Syke is a small cottage dating to 1741, marked with the initials "I and MB". It is constructed of white-washed stone rubble with a slate roof. The cottage has two very low storeys. The ground floor features two sash windows, one with eight panes and the other with twelve. The upper floor has a small bay window, the base of which rests upon the lintel of the lower window, and contains two sashes with eight and twelve panes respectively. A modern glazed porch sits in the angle between North Syke and the adjacent house, which is set at a right angle. North Syke forms a group with the Golden Rule Hotel, The Old House, numbers 1 to 3 (consecutive) of North View, Smithy Brow, numbers 1 to 4 (consecutive), Kirkstone Foot Cottage, the adjoining cottage, Springwell Cottage, Tom Fold, and The Haven, The Green.
