Description
The Golden Rule Hotel, dating from around 1683, is a two-storey building with a pebble-dashed exterior over stone rubble and a slate roof. It features a gabled porch at the front and has 16-paned sash windows on each floor, positioned at different levels. There is a wing that extends at right angles, which was originally used as stables and coachmen's rooms, featuring doors below and sash windows above. The facade facing Smithy Brow has five sash windows on the ground floor and seven above, with the upper windows having 12 panes each. The Golden Rule Hotel is part of a group that includes The Old House North View and Nos 1 to 3 (consecutive), along with North Syke, North Road, Nos 1 to 4 (consecutive), Kirkstone Foot Cottage, the adjoining cottage, Springwell Cottage, Tom Fold, and The Haven on The Green.
