Description

Askham Bridge is a road bridge dated 1897, constructed from pink sandstone ashlar. It features a single-span segmental arch with recessed voussoirs, a string course, and solid parapets that have chamfered coping. The abutments are supported by stepped buttresses, which also hold four rectangular pedestrian refuges. One of the stones in the parapet is inscribed with "ON SEPTEMBER XVII MDCCCXCVII THIS STONE WAS LAID BY THE COUNTESS OF LONSDALE." The bridge is listed for its group value with the Church of St Peter and is located partly in Lowther Civil Parish.
