Description

Askham Bridge is a road bridge dated on the parapet stone, inscribed with "ON SEPTEMBER XVII MDCCCXCVII THIS STONE WAS LAID BY THE COUNTESS OF LONSDALE." It is constructed of pink sandstone ashlar and features a single-span segmental arch with recessed voussoirs. The bridge has a string course and solid parapets with chamfered coping. The abutments are supported by stepped buttresses, which also support four rectangular pedestrian refuges. Part of the bridge lies within Askham civil parish.
