Description

The lodge north of Lowther Castle was built between 1806 and 1810 by Sir Robert Smirke for the 1st Earl of Lonsdale. It is constructed from calciferous sandstone ashlar and features modillioned battlemented parapets. The structure includes two square turrets connected by a central pointed arch, which has been blocked to create a recessed doorway with flanking side lights. This lodge is noted for its group value with Lowther Castle.
