Description
Boon Crag and the adjoining barn are two houses and a barn, possibly dating from the 17th or 18th century. They are constructed of stone rubble with a slate roof and stand two storeys tall, featuring three bays. The first and second bays project and are gabled, with some slate drip courses present on these bays. The windows vary in style, with some having slate-hung lintels, most being casements, and one sashed window with glazing bars and horns located in the second bay on the first floor. The third bay includes a fire window and a first-floor window in a gabled half dormer. The entrance to the first bay is sheltered by a gabled slate hood, while the entrance to the third bay is recessed. The gable-end stack on the second bay is corbelled out on an iron girder, and the gable-end stack on the third bay features a round shaft. The left return has central barn doors with a window to the right, and the rear gable-end includes ventilation slots. The rear also has a gabled wing. This property is included for its group value and is owned by The National Trust, having been gifted by Beatrix Potter.
