Description
A house and barn, located in Bampton. The house’s lintel reads “T and M N 1382 (Noble),” and it underwent later alterations and additions. The building is constructed from stone rubble, with the house roughly plastered. It is an L-shaped house of two storeys, with a barn extending to the east. The east elevation of the house features seven bays. The windows are sash windows with single glazing bars and horns; the 6th and 7th bays contain paired sashes on the ground floor, and the 7th bay has a small window with a pivoted casement on the first floor. The entrance to the 5th bay is framed by a gabled porch with a 20th-century door, and the inner door has a dated lintel. Gable-end stacks are present, with the northern stack being large. The west elevation exhibits three windows. A barn range projects from a lean-to garage on the north end of the house. A later outbuilding sits between the barn and garage on the north elevation, with an entrance. The barn has entrances flanked by outshuts beneath catslide roofs, and square ventilation holes. The south elevation features ventilation holes, stone surrounds to four entrances, some new windows, another entrance, and two windows. A winnowing door has been blocked. The outbuilding features an entrance, a blocked segmental-headed entrance, a blocked window to the east on the first floor, and a chimney breast. The barn contains 19th or 20th-century king post trusses.
