Description

This is a house with an attached outbuilding, dating back to the 18th century, with earlier elements from the 17th century. The house's construction is primarily of stone rubble with lime mortar and ashlar dressings, topped with slate roofs. The south elevation features five bays, with a lower, three-bay section recessed to form the original house and a re-entrant two-storey porch beneath a catslide roof. Most windows have leaded glazing. The first two bays have windows with two lights and recessed flat-faced mullions; the ground floor window of the second bay has three lights. The recessed bays have two-light, single-chamfered-mullioned windows with continuous label moulds that are interrupted by the porch bay. The porch bay includes stair lights, a flat-faced-mullioned window above the entrance, a dated lintel (“L & TI 16/79”), a studded door, and a sunk triangular head with a section of the label mould remaining. There are three gable-end stacks. The attached outbuilding, partially incorporated into the main house, has a segmental-headed entrance and inserted windows, along with a lateral stack. The east return of the outbuilding has two windows with two lights, a label, and high transoms; the west return has a crow-stepped gable. A lean-to outbuilding is also present. The north elevation displays two windows of two lights with labels to the third bay, a small window to the first bay, and a gabled wing with an end stack and two windows, one above the other, to the east return. The west return has a lean-to porch and a tall two-light, single-chamfered-mullioned window. The outbuilding has a blocked segmental-headed entrance, a window in a former entrance with a sunk triangular head, a small pivoted casement window, and another segmental-headed entrance. The first floor has a single-light window, a two-light window, and an entrance to a stair. Internally, there is a winding stone stair with a 17th-century panelled door, one fireplace with a corbelled lintel featuring a fluted key and cornice, another with a triangular head, and a two-panel door. The outbuilding includes a tie beam and strut truss.
