Description

This milestone, located approximately 40 meters from the A685, dates from the early 19th century. It is made of painted stone and has a semicircular shape on a square base, with broaches at the angles. The inscription reads: "BB : K/LONSDALE/1¼:14¼" (where BB stands for Borrow Bridge). The base features the initials "JM" in italics. This milestone was placed on the Sedbergh to Grayrigg turnpike road, which was established in 1762.
