Description
Grayrigg Head is a house built in the early 19th century, with a later wing added to the rear. The exterior features roughcast stone, along with some ashlar and rock-faced stone, topped with slate roofs. The north-east facade is two storeys high and has three bays, crowned by a hipped roof. The windows are sashed with glazing bars and horns, although they are 20th-century replacements. The central entrance is framed by a Tuscan porch that includes a frieze, cornice, and blocking course, leading to a six-panel door with a blocked overlight that also has glazing bars. The returns of the building are similar in style. There are two lateral stacks at the rear. The rear of the house features a central two-storey gabled stair wing and a two-storey, two-bay wing to the right, both accented by rock-faced sandstone quoins. The sashed windows on the rear include two without horns. The left return of the wing has an entrance with a hipped porch. Inside, there is a flying stair on an oval plan, supported by stick balusters.
