Description
Hudscales Cottage and the adjoining barn are a farmhouse and barn that have been converted into a private house. The building is dated and inscribed above the entrance with "J. & H.W. 1738," and features late 18th-century barns. It is constructed of whitewashed rubble beneath a greenslate roof, with brick chimney stacks. The structure has two storeys and three bays, with an unoccupied single bay to the left and a single-bay barn, all under a common roof.
A 19th-century stone porch leads to a 20th-century door set in a painted stone surround. The inner door has a dated and inscribed lintel. There are sash windows with original chamfered surrounds, although the stone mullions have been removed. Small fire windows are present on both floors to the left. The unoccupied section features a plank door in a painted stone surround and unglazed openings. The barn is not whitewashed and includes two plank doors and a loft door above. It continues to the left as a single-storey, single bay.
Inside the house, there is an inglenook with a firebeam and a spice cupboard recess. The further adjoining barn to the right is listed separately.
