Forge House With Attached Barn, Stable And Byres

Forge House, dated 1750, features the initials I. & S.V. on the porch lintel. The house has undergone later additions and alterations. To the left is a barn and stable, while byres are located to the right; these are late 18th century to early 19th century additions. The house is pebble-dashed, the barn and stable are constructed from slobbered rubble with quoins, and the byres are made of coursed rubble with quoins. All structures are covered by a single graduated slate roof with a stone ridge. The house is two storeys high and originally comprised three bays. It has a central plank door within a moulded porch, flanked by wide sashes on either side and two above; the eaves are chamfered. A single bay, with a sash on each floor, was added to the left, and another single bay with a sash on each floor and a plank door was added to the right. Most sashes are set in stone surrounds and feature glazing bars. The barn includes a segment-headed wagon door on the right and two plank doors, with plank loft access above, on the left. There are two plank doors leading to the byres. The house has rendered chimneys, while the barn features stone coping and a kneeler at its north end.
