Description
West Farmhouse, built in 1755, features adjoining barn and byre ranges at either end. The initials G.S. are found on the door lintel of the house. The lower barn and byre range on the right predates the house, while the barn and byre range on the left was built after. The structure is made of coursed, squared rubble with quoins and has graduated slate roofs with outshuts at the rear. It is two storeys high. The symmetrical three-bay house has a central part-glazed door flanked by three-light windows on each floor. All windows have stone-mullioned, chamfered surrounds, with sash windows in the central light and fixed windows on the sides. The right-hand range is divided internally, with a byre on the left that has a plank door and a first-floor loft entrance, and a threshing barn on the right that features a wagon door and a window at the front, along with a winnowing door at the rear. The left-hand range includes a byre door and fixed window to the left, a wagon entrance to the right, and a loft door with a small fixed window on the first floor. The house has stone chimneys at both ends.
