ESKDALE ESKDALE GREEN Pigsties at north-east corner of farmyard at Long Rigg Farm

II Range of pigsties, with cattle box or bull-pen, forming part of complete model farm. 1903 for Lord Ree of Gatehouse. Random granite rubble with quoins, graduated slate roof. Narrow rectangular plan containing a set of 4 pigsties with a bull-pen at left end, and pens in front of all. Single storey plus loft. The pigsties have 2 pairs of low square headed doorways, the pens in front of them enclosed by partitions of massive stone slabs and a rubble front wall which has 2 pairs of gates and 4 earthenware feeding troughs. The cattle box or bull pen at the left end has a wide segmental-headed doorway with outward opening board door, and the pen is enclosed by much higher rubble walls with rubble battlements. The whole range has 3 slit breathers to the loft, which is approached by external steps at the right hand gable wall. Together with the barn and shippon (q.v.), the stable block (q.v.), multi functional range (q.v.), manure shed (q.v.) and boundary wall (q.v.), forms part of complete model farm.
