Description
The workshop and adjoining dock at Fell Foot Park is a notable structure built from coursed slate rubble with some limestone dressings, topped with a slate roof. The workshop features a west elevation that includes an embattled parapet and a pointed window. To the left of the workshop, there is a dock entrance archway with a round arch supported by limestone imposts and three slots above it. Flanking the archway are turrets with slots and embattled parapets. The gable of the workshop has a central raised embattled parapet, and there is a pointed entrance to the workshop. The dock is supported by rubble retaining walls on the north and east sides and includes a capstan on the east side. This building is part of a group of boathouses constructed for Colonel G.J.M. Ridehalgh of Fell Foot, who was a member of the first sailing committee of the Windermere Sailing Club in 1854 and one of the founders of the Royal Windermere Yacht Club; the original house on the site has since been demolished.
