Description
Fair Rigg Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century or 18th century, constructed of roughcast stone and topped with a slate roof. It stands two storeys high and features four bays. The windows are fitted with small-paned fixed glazing and some casements. The entrance is located at the side of a gabled porch, which includes a front window. The gable-end stacks are prominent, with the one on the left slightly projecting. The left side of the cottage displays varied window arrangements and a small attic light, while the right side includes an outbuilding with two attic lights above and a projecting stack with setoffs and round shafts at the rear. The rear of the cottage has a continuous outshut, a stair window, and an entrance. The outbuilding features a rear entrance, garage doors on the side, and a window at the front. Inside, the cottage has ovolo beams and a spice cupboard with butterfly hinges. The staircase is adorned with splat balusters and square newels. On the first floor, there are some plank and muntin partitions, and a corbelled beam in the end wall, which may have been used for a smoke hood.
