Description
Low Side is a house dating from the early 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The building features cement rendered walls and is topped with a graduated greenslate roof that has stone chimney stacks. It is two storeys high and has two bays. The central gabled stone porch includes a side doorway and a front casement window, both framed in painted stone surrounds. There are also 20th-century casement windows in painted stone surrounds, along with a smaller fire window on the left side of the ground floor. This property is mentioned in the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England for Westmorland, page 23. It is listed for its group value with Askham Hall Farmhouse, as part of the barn from that property now serves as an extension to Low Side.
