Description
Lower Ruthwaite Farmhouse and the adjoining barn are dated 1691, as indicated by the inscription above the entrance, with 19th and 20th-century alterations. The building features painted rendered walls beneath a graduated greenslate roof and has rebuilt stone chimney stacks. It is two storeys high and consists of four bays, with a right-angled barn to the right, creating an overall L-shape. The rendered porch includes an inner plank door set in a painted architrave with a dated lintel. The windows are 20th-century casements within 19th-century painted stone surrounds, except for the upper floor window on the right, which is in an enlarged 20th-century surround. To the left, there is a small lean-to extension with rounded corners. The barn features a large projecting cart entrance on the left and a plank door on the right, flanked by casement windows.
