Description
High Howe is a farmhouse with attached farm buildings and a garden wall, dating from the 18th century. The building features a datestone inscribed with 'T & AN/1715' (N reversed), along with later alterations and additions. Constructed from stone rubble, the house is roughcast with slate roofs. It forms the east range of a courtyard, is two storeys high, and has three bays. The windows are sashed with single glazing bars, with paired windows in the end bays. The datestone is located between the first and second bays, likely above the original entrance. The house has gable-end stacks and a cross-axial stack.
A low stone wall surrounds a semi-circular garden at the north end of the house, featuring plain iron railings and rusticated end piers. The rear of the house includes an outshut beneath a catslide roof, with the north gable end having an entrance and a sashed window with a roundhead. The south range contains a wing of the house with casement windows on the south side and a lean-to canopy on the north side. The west end is taller and has small lights, along with an external stone stair that leads to a plastered outer wall adjoining the west barn range. This range includes a segmental-headed barn entrance and a smaller entrance to the right, supported by collar and tie beam trusses. The north range features a crow-stepped gable, with an entrance to the south that has a small chamfered light to the left, and an inserted garage entrance adjacent to the barn, along with a pitching hole.
