Description

Cove Farmhouse, along with its adjoining barn and smithy, is a house and outbuildings dating from the late 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the 18th century. The former right side of the house features an inscription that reads "1W 1600," while the entrance to the barn has a lintel inscribed with "1752 JW." The building is constructed of roughcast stone with ashlar dressings and has a slate roof.

The southeast facade is two storeys high and consists of three bays. The windows have plain surrounds and are sashed with glazing bars, except for the third bay on the ground floor, which has three lights with recessed flat-faced mullions that are chamfered on the inside, and casements. The plain entrance in the second bay features a studded door. The barn to the right has an entrance next to the house with a dated keyed lintel, along with inserted windows and a winnowing door. A gabled wing at the end has ventilation slots.

The former smithy is attached to the left angle of the farmhouse and projects forward under gables, with an entrance and window opening on the right side. The right return includes a barn entrance in the cheeks. The rear of the property has a gabled wing that was formerly a separate cottage, along with a 20th-century open-fronted shed attached to the barn. Inside the barn, there is an infilled barn entrance, an upper cruck truss, three collar trusses, one strut truss, and one triangular truss.
