Description
Newbiggin Cottages and Newbiggin Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been subdivided, dated 1816. It features the initials J.P. and the inscription "SPES MEA IN DEO" in Roman lettering on a panel with a moulded frame above the main door. A south wing was added in the mid-19th century, along with later alterations. The building is constructed of coursed rubble, with the south wing rendered. The main house and north wing have corner pilasters and a cornice, while the main house also includes sill bands on both floors. The roof is covered with graduated slate and has rendered end chimneys, as well as stone coping and kneelers on the main house and north wing. The structure is two storeys high and consists of five bays overall, arranged in a 1:3:1 pattern. The main block is symmetrical, featuring a central panelled door with a rectangular fanlight in a stone surround, flanked by sash windows on either side and three above. There are sash windows on each floor in both wings, all with glazing bars and stone surrounds, except for the south wing, which has segment-headed openings. Former stables adjoining to the south, now used as a garage, are not of interest.
