Description
The Lion Hotel is a mid-19th century hotel located on Fore Street in Dulverton. The building is rendered, likely originally designed to resemble ashlar, and features applied half-timbering on the gable end of the facade. It has a slate roof and roughcast stacks on the left gable end and between the second and third bays on the right. The hotel has a long range on the corner side and is two storeys plus an attic, with a layout of 2:3:1 bays.
There are two dormers with cambered heads, each containing 12-pane sash windows. The central section features a pediment with an adjoining pair of 12-pane sash windows, all set within a half-timbered pediment that is corbelled out and supported by carved end brackets. The windows throughout the building are 12-pane sashes. The entrance includes a central flat-roofed porch with an entablature supported by pilasters and recessed panels, and it has both outer and inner doors that are half-glazed, with the inner door featuring engraved glass.
