Description
Paradise Cottage and Wren Cottage is a farmhouse that has been converted into two dwellings. It is possibly from the 17th century, although the gable ends have been rebuilt and altered over time. The exterior features roughcast random rubble and a thatched roof, which has a half-hipped design on the left side and a hipped design on the right, extending into a catslide over an addition. There is a lateral stack with a slate-roofed bread oven to the left of the entrance, and a stone stack rises on the rear elevation.
The layout is not clear without an internal inspection but is likely a three-cell plan with a cross passage extended to the right. The building has two storeys and presents a facade with one bay on the left, one bay in the middle, and three bays on the right. On the first floor, there is a two-light window on the left, a three-light leaded casement with a gabled top in the bay that aligns with the lateral stack, and three early 20th-century leaded iron casements on the right. The ground floor features a two-light 19th-century leaded casement on the left and a three-light window on the right under a wooden lintel. There is a slate-roofed pentice porch leading to a plank door, with a casement to the right and an inserted entrance beyond that has a 20th-century door. A lean-to addition is present in the end bay. The interior has not been seen.
