Description
Troytes Farm Cottage is a farmhouse that has been converted into an outbuilding. It dates from the late 16th century to the early 17th century and was partly demolished in the late 19th century. The exterior is rendered over random rubble and features a triple ridge tile roof, with an external stack on the left gable end and a winder stair projection adjacent to it.
The building has a two-cell plan and is two storeys high. On the first floor, there is a 2-light window on the right and pigeon loft openings on the left. The ground floor has a 19th-century leaded iron casement window on the left, a small buttress, and a plank door.
Inside, there is a chamfered beam with a step and run-out stop, along with two pairs of jointed cruck trusses. The stair was likely removed when the building was used as a washhouse in the 19th century. There is evidence that the right gable end wall was rebuilt when Troytes Farm was constructed about 5 meters to the southwest.
