Description
Stockwater Farmhouse and attached stable block is a farmhouse dating from the mid or late 18th century. It is constructed of rubble with a slate roof and features stone stacks. The building is a long, wide-span range located immediately beside the road, with a symmetrical domestic section on the right and a stable on the left, along with a bank barn added beyond.
The farmhouse is two storeys high, with the main range having one window on the left and three windows on the right at the eaves. On the far left, there is a small two-light casement window with leading, followed by three two-light casements that include some glazing bars. The ground floor features a low stable door and a tall opening with a door and transom light, flanked by two two-light casements set above concrete lintels. A plank door is situated on three steps within deep reveals. To the right, there is a lean-to with a small vent above a plank door that has a side-light.
The farmhouse has a square ridge stack to the left of the main domestic range and a slate-hung gable on the right above the slated lean-to. The rear wall is plain, with several two-light casements. The barn, which was built separately and is slightly higher than the farmhouse, has three elliptical arched openings with rough stone voussoirs beneath a loading door, along with a corresponding door at the upper level on the far side. The interior has not been inspected.
