Description
Forge Cottage is a detached house with origins dating back to the 17th century, although it has been modified over time. The building is constructed of rendered rubble and features an asbestos-cement slate roof with stone stacks. It has a plain gabled design that includes a cross passage and a heated room on each side. The cottage is two storeys tall and has a three-window range.
The windows consist of two-light casements at the eaves level, positioned above a three-light window, a small blocked square light with a chamfered surround, and another three-light window, all of which are situated beneath a continuous stone rough drip course. To the right of the blocked light, there is a 20th-century door set back in plain reveals. At the rear, the cottage features two half-dormers above a later brick lean-to that extends nearly the full width of the property.
On the left (east) side, there is a large external gable stack, and another gable stack is located on the right side. The interior is not generally accessible, but a 19th or 20th-century timber dogleg stair can be found to the right of the main entrance.
