Description
Rose Cottage is a house, part of a pair, dating from the 17th century. It features rendered and painted rubble with a slate roof and stone stacks. The building is divided into two parts: the original section has a central-entry plan with two rooms, built close to the rock face at the back. It is two storeys high and has three windows, which are small two or three-light casements with wood lintels. The ground floor openings have stop-chamfer detailing, and there is a central 19th-century door within a 20th-century glazed gabled porch. The ground floor also shows remnants of a rough stone drip course. The right gable, which is covered by the later adjoining building, has a large external stack. To the left, there is a lower two-storey range from the mid to late 20th century, featuring a central door and a two-light casement window on each level.
Inside, the ground floor consists of a single room in the main range, which has a rebuilt fireplace that retains a cloam oven, along with some chamfered joists. The lateral stair has a straight flight and features a thin 19th-century three-plank door. The roof structure, likely a later rebuilding, has paired principals.
