Description

This is a double limekiln and raised platform dating from the mid-19th century, located at NGR SS 8005 4954. It is constructed from local stone random rubble. The kiln has a plan featuring double curved bays set back to back with a central flue. There is a curved low wall on the west side, while the east side appears to have been raised, obscured by dense vegetation at the time of the survey in October 1984. The structure has a monopitch stone roof and a curved rear wall that forms a dog-leg entrance to the left-hand kiln. The entire front is bordered by a retaining wall approximately 40 meters long. The flue remains unblocked, and the limekiln is noted as a fine example in relatively good condition. Nearby, there are ruins of a boathouse and coach house, which are not included in this listing. This limekiln is part of the Glenthorne estate.
