Description
The conduit-head attached to the front of 67A East Street in Ashburton is an early 18th-century structure that once played a role in the town's water supply. Made of limestone ashlar, it has a small oblong shape with chamfered corners. The conduit-head features a high moulded base, a moulded top cornice, and an ogee stone roof topped with a finial. At the front of the base, there is a small, blocked round-arched opening with two iron hinges. On the right side, a semi-circular, round-arched recess has a pipe projecting from the back. The upper section includes a round-arched, shallow recess at the front and on each side, which appear to be decorative. The front recess holds a plaque inscribed "DHBT 1974," indicating its repair by the Devon Historic Buildings Trust. The conduit-head is supplied by a reservoir located in Roborough Lane.
