Description
Slate Cottage is a cottage, possibly originally two cottages, likely built in the 18th century. It features rendered granite rubble walls, with a granite rubble stack on the left gable end that has drip moulds, and probably a rendered brick stack on the right gable end. The layout is either a two-room plan with a direct entry and a larger lower room, or it consists of a pair of direct entry cottages, each with a heated room. There is a later outshut at the rear.
The cottage is two storeys high and has a nearly regular three-window front, which includes late 19th-century casements with two and three lights and glazing bars. To the left of the centre, there is a gabled porch. At the front, there is a granite rubble garden wall that extends around three sides, connecting to the house at either end, with a coping made of stones set on end and a central opening.
Inside, the cottage features an open fireplace with a plain wooden lintel and insubstantial plain cross beams. It is included for its group value.
