Description

The drinking fountain, located 17 meters north of No 66 (Bay Horse Inn), dates from around 1901 and has been moved from its original position. It is made of granite and iron and features a two-stage octagonal base. The lower stage is rough-faced and includes a drinking trough for dogs, while the upper stage is smooth-faced and has a trough for overflow from a former water outlet on the east side. On the west side, there is an incised inscription that reads: "In memory of Robert Edward Bovey late of Baddaford Staverton 27th Compy Imp Yeomanry. Killed in action fighting for his king and country at Mordwell S Africa, Sep 30th 1901."
