Description

This building, part of the Moor Shopping Centre, has late medieval origins, although it was remodelled in the early 19th century. It is constructed of rendered walls with a hipped, slated roof, and features a rendered chimney, likely dating to the 20th century, on the right side-wall. The building is L-shaped, comprising two rooms to either side of a cross-passage and a single-room-plan wing to the rear left.

The property stands three storeys high and has three windows across the front; a doorway occupies the position of the original centre ground-floor window. A shop front is situated on the left-hand side, featuring pilasters and a display window with enriched uprights having fleur-de-lys capitals. Doorways and windows have vermiculated surrounds, with keystones decorated with female heads above the ground floor and second-floor windows (the one above the doorway is damaged). The windows are largely 8-paned sashes with horns, but the upper sashes in the third storey have only 4 panes. Full-height flanking vermiculated pilasters are present, although the vermiculation is missing at the left end of the ground floor. A bracketed eaves-cornice is visible, but its upper mouldings have been removed.

Internally, remnants of stud and panel partitions remain on either side of the cross-passage, and a part of an early shouldered doorway survives on the right side. Fragments of an early moulded plaster cornice are also present. A small outbuilding attached to the rear contains two large stone stacks and two fireplaces.
