Description

The former Congregational Church and schoolrooms, likely built in the early 19th century for the church and mid-19th century for the schoolrooms, are constructed of stone rubble, with the schoolrooms featuring red-brick window surrounds. The roofs are slated, with a hipped roof over the chapel. The church is located at the rear of the site, adjacent to Stapledon Lane, while the schoolrooms are positioned at right angles to the right side of the chapel's forecourt. These two buildings are now connected by a gallery.

Both structures are two stories tall and three windows wide. The chapel features round-arched windows and a central doorway, with barred sash windows that have Gothic glazing in their heads and in the fanlight above the door. The eaves cornice is coved on all four sides, and the rear and side walls display red-brick arches. Notably, the central east window contains colored glass with figures, which was described in a 1973 listing as probably 17th century Flemish glass brought from a building in Westminster Bridge Road, London, which was demolished when Christchurch was built.

The schoolrooms have segmental-arched windows on the ground floor and in the upper storey of the west gable, as well as flat-headed windows in the upper storey of the north front, all featuring barred sashes. A small gabled entrance porch is located on the west gable wall, and both the main building and the porch have deep projecting eaves. A 19th-century iron railing runs across the entire street frontage, with moulded caps on the standards and enriched spearheads on the other uprights. Inside, the chapel retains few features, although the galleries and some wall monuments remain.
