Description
26 and 26A North Street is a house that has been divided into two shops. It dates from the 18th century and was remodeled in the early 19th century. Number 26 was refronted in the mid or late 19th century. Number 26, on the right, has a solid rendered front, while number 26A, on the left, features painted slate-hanging. The building has a slated roof and a rendered chimney on the right gable end. It stands three storeys high and is three windows wide. Number 26 boasts a well-preserved mid or late 19th-century shop front, with flanking pilasters that have shaped panels, an entablature, and upright iron glazing bars designed to resemble columns with fleur-de-lys capitals. Above the shop front, there are two sash windows on each storey, each with two panes and margin-panes. Number 26A has a door to the right on the ground storey and a sash window to the left, which has two panes over four panes. There is an 8-paned sash window on each storey above. A coved eaves cornice runs across the entire building.
