Description

The engine house and chimney at Druid Copper Mine are in ruins and likely date from the mid 19th century. The structure is built of stone rubble, with the chimney featuring a red-brick top. The roof of the engine house has been removed, leaving a single chamber that is roughly square in shape. Approximately 8.5 meters to the east stands the circular chimney. To the west of the engine house lies the mineshaft, and to the north, there is a series of below-ground chambers. The engine house is a tall building, likely two storeys high, and originally included an underground chamber. Most of the walls are still standing, although some masonry has collapsed at the top.

The east side of the engine house features a tall round-arched doorway, with similar, smaller openings on the south and west sides. The south side appears to have been decorated with pilaster-strips. On the north side, there is a tall narrow opening, presumably for machinery. The chimney is nearly complete, with a cornice at the top made of projecting brick courses, and above that, a short brick shaft with round-arched panels on its sides. According to the owner, the mine ceased operations in 1888.
