Description
North (or Higher) Hele is a farmhouse dating from the mid-18th century, with some earlier elements. It features a granite ashlar front and a slate hipped roof. The building has a symmetrical five-bay facade, with original window openings that have flat arches and 20th-century casements. The central entrance consists of a flush panel door topped with a rectangular fanlight, and there is a 20th-century open porch. Rendered chimneystacks are located at either end of the house. At the rear, there is a one-storey and attic outshut that includes a moulded four-centred arch doorway with carved spandrels and a stone mullion window, which may indicate the remains of an earlier house or reused materials. Inside, the staircase has an open well that has been filled in, but it retains a balustrade with a moulded handrail that ramps up to large column newels.
