Description
This is a farmhouse, formerly known as Higher Sidebight, dating from 1699, although it is said to be the date of restoration and has undergone several building phases. The farmhouse is constructed of sandstone blocks and coursed sandstone rubble, with quoins, and has a slate roof with a ridge chimney marking the junction of the second and third bays. It is originally three bays wide and two storeys high, with a 19th-century wing added to the rear of the first bay.
The front wall features four diminishing courses of large stone blocks at its base, interrupted between the second and third bays. The current front door, located in the second bay, is set within a small, modern brick porch with an old stone lintel lettered with “HMG” in the centre. To the left of the porch is a two-light mullioned stairlight dated 1699, and a four-light mullioned window (now lacking two mullions), both with hoodmoulds. To the right of the porch is a large, altered window with a hoodmould, and a doorway that breaks another hoodmould; the masonry between suggests the original position of a door with a gabled porch. At the first floor, under the eaves, there are three small, originally mullioned windows that have been altered. The rear of the farmhouse has altered or blocked openings, including a blocked two-light mullioned window. The interior has not been inspected.
