Description
Whitebirk North Cottage is a farmhouse, likely built in the early 17th century, which has been altered and is now used as a cottage. The building is constructed of rubble, rendered and whitewashed, topped with stone slate roofs and featuring three gable chimneys. The layout consists of three sections, with the main part being a two-storey single cell that faces the lane. To the right is a low single-storey service wing, and to the left is a two-storey single cell extension that is set back.
The gable of the central section has a four-light double chamfered stone mullion window with a hoodmould on each floor, both positioned towards the right. The rear gable has part of a similar window, although it is partially blocked by the current chimney and interrupted by one of four recent windows. Inside, on the first floor, there is a single roof truss with a cambered tie-beam, collar, and mortices near the apex, which may have been intended for a collar yoke, supporting two pairs of purlins, although much of this is hidden by a later ceiling. There is also a blocked first-floor window in the side wall.
