Description
Rose Cottage is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century that has been altered and extended, now functioning as a house. It is constructed of coursed and random rubble with a slate roof featuring a brick chimney on the ridge and a lateral stack. The building has an L-shaped plan with two bays and a crosswing to the west that projects on the north side. It stands two storeys tall, with the main entrance located in the angle on the north side, which is covered by a lean-to porch.
The most notable architectural feature is the crosswing, which has quoins and a large projecting chimney stack in the center of the side wall, flanked by small chamfered windows that are both blocked. Each floor of the south gable has a 4-light double-chamfered stone mullion window with a hoodmould. The first bay to the east of the wing has a similar 5-light window, although it is missing two mullions and is now covered by a glazed porch.
Inside, the wing includes a box-framed partition wall with a large cambered tie-beam at the first floor, along with some chamfered beams. There is also a stair turret incorporated in the re-entrant at the northeast corner, all under the same roof.
