Description

Whitebirk Moss Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and a stone slate roof featuring gable copings and kneelers. The building has one chimney on the ridge and two gable chimneys that project from the left gable. It is a three-bay, baffle-entry, two-storey house with a two-storey gabled porch located at the junction of the second and third bays, along with a two-storey rear outshut attached to the let and second bays.

The porch includes a studded door with a chamfered surround, and on the first floor, there is a stepped three-light double chamfered mullion window with a stepped hoodmould. The porch also features hollow moulded coping and roll-moulded kneelers. There are three additional mullion windows on each floor: the ground floor windows are double-chamfered with hoodmoulds and contain four, five, and three lights (originally four), while the first-floor windows are chamfered with four, four, and three lights.

The left return wall, which has a projecting chimney stack, is rendered and includes a door and a three-light mullion window on the first floor. The rear of the farmhouse features a small three-light stone mullion window on the first floor of the outshut, a firewindow at the junction of the second and third bays, and five other windows, with the third bay altered for use as a dairy.

Inside, there is a large stone arch fireplace in the second bay and some large roll-moulded beams.
