Description

Cornwood Church of England School and School Master's House is a village school and school master's residence, dated 1859. It is constructed of granite ashlar and features polychrome blue and yellow brick with slate roofing. The building has steeply pitched gabled and hipped roofs, with the school master's house located at the west end. It is two storeys high and consists of three bays. The central feature is a two-storeyed gabled porch with a depressed arch. To the right, there is a stone chimneystack with set offs and diagonal brick shafts, and a gabled dormer is located to the left. The windows are pointed arch in style. The school is attached at the back, to the east, and includes three large gabled dormers with pointed arch lights that have colonnettes between them, all set within pointed arch recesses. The right-hand end features a polygonal projecting bay with a steep hipped roof; the base is made of granite with buttresses at the corners, while the upper section is constructed of polychrome brick.
