Description
The Elms is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early to mid 19th century and has been altered. It is constructed of large blocks of granite ashlar and features a roof made of red composition tiles with a cockscomb ridge and brick chimneys. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high, with three first-floor windows. The doorway, which is offset to the left of centre, has a pedimented porch supported by slender columns and pilasters that have deep reeded caps. The door is recessed and panelled, with panelled reveals. To the right of the door is a large round-headed stair window with a semicircular head painted white. On the ground floor, there are two windows to the left and one to the right, while the first floor has three symmetrically arranged windows. All windows are unhorned sashes without glazing bars, and there are gable chimneys. The rear of the building has altered windows. Inside, there is an open-string staircase in a shallow open well at the front wall, featuring scrolled brackets, stick balusters, and a mahogany handrail with a wreathed curtail. There is also a shouldered fireplace on the first floor.
