Description
23 Woodland Road is a house that dates back to the 17th century or earlier, with a datestone marking the year 1666. The front wall is solidly rendered, while the right gable wall is made of stone rubble. The roof is slated, and there is a stone rubble chimney on the right gable end. The house has two storeys with an irregular front. On the ground floor, there is a central doorway flanked by two windows on each side. The upper storey features three windows that are placed erratically. The entrance has a ribbed plank door with a lion-head knocker and a bead-moulded frame. The ground floor windows have three-paned sashes set in recessed box frames, while the upper storey windows have two-paned sashes in concealed frames, with their heads rising above the eaves level and gabled. Between the two left-hand upper storey windows, there is a granite shield that is incised with the date 1666 and the initials SB.
