Description
Shirley House is a house from the early 18th century, possibly with an older core, and features a painted date of 1651 AD. It is constructed from coursed sandstone with varied tooling, including some very fine and standard herringbone patterns, along with significant patching and rebuilding on the front. The roof is pantiled and has a brick chimney.
The house has two storeys, an attic, and a basement, with an irregular two-bay layout. On the right side, there are five steps leading up to a studded boarded door, which is sheltered by a gabled wood hood supported by decorative brackets. To the left, there is a boarded basement door and an inserted window. The ground and first floors feature two replaced 12-pane sash windows with projecting sills. A modern dormer with a small-paned casement is also present, and there is a chimney at the left end. Additionally, a carved name stone has been inserted below the ground floor window.
