Description
77 and 78 High Street are a pair of houses that date from the 16th or 17th century, with a front that was rebuilt in the 18th century. The buildings feature Flemish bond brickwork, timber-framing, a tile roof, and a brick stack. The parapeted front conceals an earlier roof, which has a dip in the ridge-line to the right, with the main central stack located behind the ridge. No. 77 includes a gabled brick rear wing. The houses are two storeys tall with an attic and have one window on the left and one on the right. No. 77 has a gabled dormer that contains a 2-light small-pane casement window, positioned above tripartite sashes with a configuration of 4:12:4 panes. No. 78 does not have a dormer and features paired 8-pane sashes set in a central mullion box, all with splayed V-joint lintels. On both sides, there are 20th-century panelled doors. In Summers Court, to the left under No. 76, the heavy framework of the main structure is visible. The interior has not been inspected.
